India to open financial markets

India's top market regulator has announced measures designed to sharpen corporate governance and fuel foreign investment, which may well fuel a landmark privatisation, reports the Financial Times.

The Securities & Exchange Board of India (Sebi) will allow equity trading via the internet on Indian stock exchanges it has endorsed key reports on corporate governance and venture capital funds and it will ease rules to allow foreign individuals and corporates to invest in Indian companies.
