Instinet's cost cutting efforts fail to stem losses

Instinet, the electronic trading group, recorded another loss in the first quarter as falling transaction revenues cancelled out the company's cost cutting efforts.

Instinet, a listed subsidiary of Reuters, lost just over $34m (€31m) in the first three months of the year, almost unchanged from the loss sustained in the first quarter of 2002. But it was an improvement on the $112m loss in the fourth quarter.
