International digital dollars edge one step closer to reality

A project has proved that financial institutions can use central bank digital currencies to transact directly with each other on a shared platform

International financial authorities have developed prototype platforms for digital currencies backed by central banks to be incorporated into the worldwide monetary system, raising hopes for the reality of digital dollars.

The Bank for International Settlements (BIS) announced Tuesday that it had co-developed two preliminary platforms to facilitate international settlements with digital currencies issued by multiple central banks.
