Investment banking lifts Investec

Investec, the South African bank, reported a 58% rise in operating profits to £152.8m (€224.8m) in the half year to September, thanks to solid performance in investment banking and asset management.

The £152.8m does not include gains of £75.7m relating to the disposal of businesses, which raises pre-tax profits to £222m.
