Institutional investors allocated $195bn (€124bn) to hedge funds last year, a 28% increase over 2006 as institutional money continues to flow to fund managers despite a decline in performance in the second half of last year.

About 23% of US institutions said they planned to increase their allocations by 2010 compared with 2% that said they expected to reduce them, according to a report by research company Greenwich Associates.
