Italy launches first sovereign dollar benchmark of 2002

Italy has re-opened the sovereign dollar bond market after a spate of transactions from supranational and agency borrowers provided a lively start to the year.

In recent weeks, deals from triple-A rated borrowers, such as the World Bank and the European Investment Bank, have attracted a strong response as investors sought top quality supply, but Italy is the first sovereign to launch a benchmark bond in dollars.
