A former sales star at Icap's now defunct cash equities business, who previously headed European equity sales at WestLB Panmure and HVB, has joined former colleagues at US investment bank Jefferies.

Alan Carvell joined Jefferies last month, according to the Financial Services Authority register of authorised persons. He will work as a research salesperson, according to a source familiar with the appointment.
