Sorrell, Man Group and the systematic connection

On the face of it, the move of a Goldman Sachs managing director to a hedge fund manager with $71bn of assets under management seems like a big jump – but there is a connection

Goldman Sachs managing director Jonathan Sorrell is best known in the hedge fund industry for his role in running Petershill, the alternative investment fund that was set up within Goldman Sachs Asset Management in 2007.

He is now moving to Man Group in the role of head of strategy and corporate finance, reporting to chief executive Peter Clarke. He begins on August 30, according to a source familiar with the appointment, and is far broader than fund strategy.
