Nasdaq's $190m (€157m) purchase of Brut, the electronic communications network, is being investigated by the US Department of Justice over antitrust issues.

A spokeswoman for the department said: "We are looking at Nasdaq's proposed purchase of Brut after possible antitrust concerns were raised." She refused to comment any further.
