US private equity firm Kohlberg Kravis Roberts has made the largest buyout in Australia, buying waste management company Cleanaway from Brambles Industrial Services, which provides logistics for the mining industry, for $1.35bn (€1bn).

The deal is KKR's first in Australia. It opened offices in Tokyo and Hong Kong earlier this year in a bid to tap into the Asia-Pacific region.
