Knight Vinke, the US activist asset manager, decided to take a legal approach today in its attempt to break up Suez Group, the French water and power conglomerate.

The fund manager will petition the Belgian courts to investigate whether Suez's ownership of Electrabel, its Benelux energy subsidiary, is short-changing minority shareholders.
