KPN opens market with biggest deal

Salomon Smith Barney and Bank of America opened up the bond markets to telecoms companies again last week after the pair successfully launched a deal for KPN, the Dutch telecoms giant.

As expected, each of the four tranches in the deal carried a clause offering investors protection if the mobile phone operator's credit rating slips below A-.
