Kweku Adoboli, the UBS trader who was arrested in September and accused of making unauthorised transactions that cost the Swiss bank up to $2.3bn, was today released on bail after lodging an application with Southwark Crown Court in London. Bark & Co solicitor Tim Harris, representing Adoboli, said in a statement his client was delighted and "very emotional". Bark & Co's Paul Lennon said that friends and family of Adoboli had provided "a substantial amount of money and other sureties as security for his bail application." Adoboli has been in Wandsworth Prison since late last year. Bloomberg reported that Adoboli will have to wear an electronic monitoring device and have a curfew, as well as reside at a friend's home in London as he awaits trial in September.
