As Labour laid out its radical programme for government at its Brighton conference, there was plenty for the City to fret about.

The modest proposals included the end of bonuses, higher taxes on big earners, the nationalisation of utilities, massive increases in public spending, a four-day week and forcing big companies to transfer 10% of their shares to their workforce.
