Latin American currency falls wipe out fund gains in first half

Latin American mutual funds' asset growth in the first half of this year was wiped out by exchange-rate erosion, according to a new survey from Latin Asset Management, the specialist research and consulting firm.

In local currency terms assets under management increased over the six months from December 2001 to June 2002, but those gains were negated by average exchange rate declines of around 16% against the dollar.
