Lazard's attempts to seal a merger between client Beazer, the construction company, and rival Bryant could be under threat because Bryant is currently considering the possibility of being taken over by another firm.

Taylor Woodrow, another UK construction group, said on Thursday that it approached the board of Bryant regarding a possible takeover.
