After more than a year of investigating and debating the causes of the financial crisis, here comes the mother of all commissions. The Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission held its first hearing this morning.

The witness list is a star-studded cast, to say the least: Lloyd Blankfein, chief executive of Goldman Sachs; James Dimon of JP Morgan Chase; John Mack of Morgan Stanley; and Brian Moynihan, the newly minted chief of Bank of America.
