The Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, has thrown out an application to build the Tulip, a proposed 300-metre skyscraper in the City whose eye-catching design had divided opinion.

The visitor attraction, designed by architecture firm Foster + Partners and developed by the J Safra conglomerate, was approved by the City of London Corporation, the Square Mile’s local authority, in April. Sign-off by the Mayor of London was its final hurdle.
