The storied name of the London Stock Exchange is worth tens of millions of dollars less than it was 12 months ago, after a turbulent year that featured the collapse of a landmark merger and acrimonious departure of its chief executive.

The LSE has fallen from sixth to ninth place in an annual ranking of global exchange groups, collated by valuation and strategy consultancy Brand Finance.
