London’s finance hubs stay eerily quiet, despite retail reopening

No mile-long queues to shops in the Square Mile and Canary Wharf

On the day the UK government allowed all non-essential retailers to reopen, London’s financial district remained eerily still.

Across the City of London and Canary Wharf, there were no mile-long queues, no Black Friday anticipation to get through the doors as they opened and no scrambles for the items on sale. In fact, it was so quiet that customers were often outnumbered by shop assistants.
