Levene calls for end to hysteria over banking bonuses

Bankers must focus on fixing the economy rather than fending off the media assault over compensation, says former Lloyds of London chairman

Lord Levene, the former Lord Mayor who retired as chairman of Lloyds of London at the end of last year, called on bankers escape the “media assault” and focus on fixing the economy.

Levene, who stood in for the current London Mayor at the Worshipful Company of International Bankers' banquet at Guildhall, acknowledged the public antipathy towards the banking sector in a speech.
