Shares in the London Stock Exchange (LSE) jumped 7% to a record high after renewed speculation that the exchange is in serious talks with Nasdaq and could sign a merger deal within weeks.
The LSE declined to comment on what it dismissed as "pure speculation". It reiterated its standard line that the LSE is talking with all the other exchanges all of the time. Nasdaq also said that it regularly talks with others exchanges, but declined to comment on the specifics.
