M&S rejects Green's £9bn bid terms

Clifford Chance tipped as Green's legal advisers

Marks & Spencer has rejected an informal £9bn (€13.5bn) takeover offer from Philip Green, the UK retail entrepreneur. The deal would rank as Europe's largest ever take-private. Green has demanded access to confidential information but stressed that he will not make a hostile bid.

In a statement Marks & Spencer said it had met to consider Green's proposal which "significantly undervalues the group and its prospects".
