Q&A with Marcelo Di Lorenzo: 3i's head of Brazil

The UK private equity firm made its first Brazilian investment last month

Marcelo Di Lorenzo joined 3i Group last April with three colleagues from Standard Bank Private Equity to launch a Brazilian arm for the UK private equity firm. The team has grown to six and last month announced their first deal – a 100m Brazilian real ($56.7m) minority stake in Blue Interactive, a cable TV and broadband provider.

Financial News: Why did you leave Standard Bank to join 3i? Marcelo Di Lorenzo: 3i is a global private equity firm and focuses on mid-sized companies which we believe provide the most attractive opportunities in Brazil and was a cultural fit for the team. 3i was very determined to enter the Brazilian market so it was the right platform for the team to join.
