Mark Kleinman: My predictions for 2018

London to miss out on the largest-ever IPO, Barclays' investment bank to merge with a rival, and the exit of a storied British institution...

Kleinman predicts RBS CEO Ross McEwan will be replaced by Alison Rose, chief executive of commercial and private banking

Boardroom revolts, electoral shocks, surprise mergers: 2017 was at once a remarkable year and yet - by the recent benchmarks set by British business and politics - relatively conventional. So what does 2018 hold?

Rolet’s return
The City’s most notorious figure last year was undoubtedly Xavier Rolet, but this year expect the former London Stock Exchange Group chief to be linked to a string of major jobs in global finance. He is already being touted by some, for example, as an adviser to the Saudi royal family on the largest stock market flotation of all time (although - and here's my second forecast - London will miss out on the Saudi Aramco IPO); but Rolet will also be sounded out for less obvious roles, including the chief executive's berth at the Commonwealth Bank of Australia.
