“Martin, you don’t wear grey leather shoes in the City.”

I was told this on one of my first trips to London in the 1980s. I was obviously unaware of City etiquette and the required dress code. It goes without saying I returned to the north east of Scotland with my tail between my legs and didn’t commit this supposed faux pas again.
