Martin Gilbert, the veteran fund management deal maker, has thrown his support behind proposals designed to fuel the listing of so-called blank-cheque companies in the UK.

Gilbert, who until September last year was vice-chair of FTSE 100-listed fund management group Standard Life Aberdeen, said special purpose acquisition companies will “definitely” take off in London, and that the UK's existing listing regime needed to be more flexible to accommodate them.
