May’s plan for the City could prove too ambitious

The UK government's stance acknowledges the needs of the City, but getting the EU to agree will be a long shot

Theresa May billed her Lancaster House speech as promising a clean break with the European Union. There would be no question of the UK being half in and half out of the single market.

But in terms of the City, that could not be further from the truth. Far from offering a clean break she is aiming for essentially no change.
