Banks around the world face a future of stagnant returns on equity, poor growth and a dangerous potential to become bypassed in an increasingly digitised world, according to McKinsey.

In its latest annual report on the banking sector, the consultant highlighted that in 2016, after five years of strong growth, its global growth rate almost halved to 3%.
