Mary Meeker, head of global technology research analyst at Morgan Stanley who was dubbed "an awesome diviner of opportunity" in 1999, is leaving to join the equally famous Silicon Valley venture capital firm Kleiner Perkins Caufield & Byers.

Ted Schlein, a partner at Kleiner Perkins, said in a statement yesterday: "Her unique expertise in predicting Internet technology, social and mobile trends - including their direction and scale - is a huge advantage for rapidly growing ventures."
