Mental illness is costing City employers £100m a year with long hours and intense pressure meaning employees in the Square Mile are more likely to suffer from problems than workers in other sectors.
In the largest ever study of its kind, the City Mental Health Alliance found almost half (47%) of the 1,071 people polled said they had experienced mental health difficulties at their current employer. This was several percentage points higher than other sectors, according to the report’s author Beth Robotham, who is a vice chair of the CMHA and worked at Goldman Sachs before joining Bupa in 2015.
