Mercer Global Investments, the multi-manager arm of human resource and investment consulting firm Mercer, has hired a former hedge funds executive at Spanish bank Santander as head of institutional marketing in Europe.

Amit Popat, previously in charge of institutional sales at Santander's Geneva-based funds of hedge funds operation Optimal Investment Services, joined MGI as European head of business development on February 1.
