Merrill Lynch names European strategic head

Merrill Lynch Investment Managers, the $589m (€460m) asset manager that is merging with BlackRock, has hired a former manager at Gartmore Investment Partners to a new role as head of strategy and business development for Europe, the Middle East and Africa.

Sarah Melvin worked on a range of strategy projects at Gartmore, the fund manager acquired by buyout house Hellman & Friedman in May, including reviews of its hedge fund and Japanese businesses.
