Buyout fans cheer for Mexico

Overheating in Brazil is sending a wave of private equity down Mexico way

During last year’s London Olympics, Mexico’s football team stunned the world by beating Brazil and winning a gold medal. Mexico still has a long way to go to overtake Brazil for private equity investments. But together with Peru and Colombia, it is viewed as one of the most attractive investment opportunities in Latin America.

In January, data provider Preqin surveyed more than 40 investors who have previously committed to funds investing in Latin America or want to invest there. Colombia was rated the best opportunity according to 52% of respondents, Mexico was second with 41% and Peru third with 17%.
