Michael Spencer, founder and chief executive of Icap, the broker, is continuing his efforts to build a portfolio of asset management firms with investments in a corporate governance venture and a hedge fund administrator.

Spencer is taking a substantial minority stake in Governance for Owners, an engagement and fund activist firm set up late last year by former directors of fund manager Hermes, Peter Butler and Steve Brown.
