More investors are favouring social clawbacks

Backing grows for clawbacks for directors whose decisions cause reputational damage

A growing number of institutional investors are in favour of bonus clawbacks for directors whose decisions have caused reputational damage to their companies.

Last week's fertiliser plant explosion in West, Texas, was cited by Robert Talbut, chief executive of Royal London Mutual, who said: "It would be reasonable to ask directors to sign contracts which would require remuneration committees to consider whether reputational damage should lead to bonus clawbacks."
