Morgan Stanley China veteran leaving to start private equity firm

MD and operating chief in the country to join parade leaving banking for China-tech opportunities

A veteran Morgan Stanley banker in China is leaving the Wall Street bank to start a private equity firm focusing on China technology, according to people familiar with the matter.

Carlos Oyarbide, managing director and chief operating officer for Morgan Stanley in China, is in the early stages of setting up the firm, the people said, adding that it plans to raise around $500 million for its initial fund.
