Financial News has attempted to shine a light on the detail behind the names included in the latest batch of managing directors at US bank Morgan Stanley, which last week handed 144 staff from across its businesses the title of MD – the fewest since 2008.

The number of new MDs was down almost a third on last year, when 210 were promoted. It is the lowest number since the bank named 133 new MDs in 2008.
