City grandee and diversity champion Baroness Helena Morrissey says proposals from the UK's financial regulator to allow listed firms to report the chosen gender of their employees could act as a “distraction” to achieving boardroom diversity, rather than helping the cause.

The Financial Conduct Authority recently consulted on new rules designed to boost the disclosure of diversity on listed company boards and executive committees, which could be finalised later this year.
