A group of MPs have renewed calls for the Big Four accountancy giants to be broken up by regulators, saying their "cursory audits" and "failed advice" played a key role in the downfall of construction group Carillion.

The chairs of Parliament's Business and Pensions committees voiced their criticisms as the four-month joint investigation into Carillion's bankruptcy drew to a close on May 16.
