Murray Johnstone, the Glasgow-based fund manager, is certain to be put up for sale once the purchase of its parent, United Asset Management, by Old Mutual is finalised.

Old Mutual, which is looking to complete its purchase of UAM by the beginning of October, is likely to put the Glaswegian fund managers on notice. One analyst said: 'It would seem to have too many brands.'
