Six months on from the advent of so-called "pensions freedoms" – the government reforms which mean savers are no longer obliged to buy an annuity with their pension fund – confusion abounds among the trustees and company pension scheme managers as to how to best communicate with employees about the new options.

Helen Ball, a partner specialising in pensions at law firm Sackers, told the Pensions and Lifetime Savings Association conference in Manchester that "there is still a lot of confusion about how much you are supposed to talk about Pension Wise, and the risks that people are supposed to take into account".
