Nasdaq OMX boosted by derivatives

Derivatives boost revenues of transatlantic exchange group as wave of mega-mergers place high premium on niche markets

Nasdaq OMX’s derivatives and technology divisions helped the group to record its "highest-ever" first quarter revenues, in a sign that exchanges are already responding to pressures to rebrand themselves as diversified financial centres to be able to compete on a global scale.

The transatlantic exchange group today reported that revenues from its derivatives business jumped 31% to $81m in the first quarter, while technology sales rose by 27% to $43m.
