Nasdaq, the US stock market, posted a net loss of $5.5m (€4.3m) for the third quarter, as its daily share volume slumped almost 11% compared with the previous quarter.

Despite the marked decrease in trading volume, the loss was an improvement on the same period last year when the exchange posted a net loss of $39m.
