New public pension scheme doubles membership

Newly-released figures suggest Nest will be a significant player in the UK's fund management market

Nest, the public pension scheme set up as part of the UK's drive to get all working people saving for retirement, has doubled its membership to 210,000 in the past two months, and now accounts for a substantial chunk of all the new savers brought into the system.

Over six years, beginning last October, every company in the UK will have to offer all its staff a pension scheme. Nest - full name the National Employment Savings Trust - was set up to run plans for companies that do not want to set up their own.
