New Chinese index adds impetus to passive products

The introduction of a new stock market index in China has led to a rush from Chinese fund managers to launch index-linked products.

Last month the Shanghai Stock Exchange launched the Shanghai SE180 index to replace the less representative Shanghai SE30 index. The 180 companies in the new benchmark now represent roughly half of Shanghai's free-floating market capitalisation and turnover.
