New internet entrants threaten investment banks' value chain

One of the problems that the big investment banks have is that there is probably nothing they can do to adapt to the competitive threat from the internet. It is not that they are too slow or ill-informed it is simply that their business model is ill-suited to the internet age. Bit by bit revenue streams are going to be cut away by smaller, nimbler, more focused, cheaper competitors.
