NewMedia Spark opens door to takeover offers

NewMedia Spark, the AIM-listed technology venture capital specialist, has put itself on the market having posted a 66% writedown on its portfolio in its interim results, and pre-tax loss of £17.9m (€26.6m).

Collins Stewart, the UK stockbroker, had been interested in buying NewMedia Spark for its 11% stake in Tullet & Tokyo Liberty, one of the world's biggest inter-dealer brokers. It had carried out preliminary due diligence. However, talks were put on hold while Collins Stewart pursued Tullet. Terry Smith, chief executive of Collins Stewart, said he might look at NewMedia Spark once the Tullet deal had been finalised. This was completed on Monday.
