News in brief: Barclays hires trader in Asia

Barclays Capital has poached Romeo Uyan from Credit Suisse First Boston to head up fixed-income trading in Asia.

The hire is part of Barclays' bid to grow its Asian investment banking business. Rob Morrice, the bank's head of credit, is moving to Hong Kong in January to take over the Asian operations. In June the bank took 15 Asian debt market bankers from Deutsche Bank. Barclays plans to build on the existing lending relationships it has with Asian governments and corporates and manage more bond issues for them. Uyan will report to James Loh, head of trading in Asia.
