Alastair Walton has joined Goldman Sachs to head its Australian investment banking after resigning last month from Credit Suisse First Boston in Hong Kong where he headed Asian investment banking ex-Japan.
Malcolm Turnbull retires as Goldman's Australian co-chairman in November, leaving Jon Aisbitt as sole chairman. Walton's appointment is part of a drive by the US investment bank to increase its share of the Australasian mergers and acqusitions market. At CSFB Walton was responsible for CSFB's corporate advisory business as well as both its debt and equity capital markets teams, and all the related specialist product groups.
